S&P 500 - Inclusion Tomorrow
The S&P 500 announces its quarterly rebalance changes after the market close on the first Friday of the month preceding the rebalance effective date. The next announcement of inclusions are tomorrow, March 7 after market close. The changes take effect on Friday, March 21. **Likely to Be Added:** - $HOOD Robinhood - $COIN Coinbase - $APP Applovin - $TTD Tradedesk **Potential but Unlikely:** - $XYZ Square - $SOFI SoFi **Rumored to be removed:** - $INTC Intel - $WBA Walgreens I do have $XYZ and $SOFI, and I plan to buy $TTD tomorrow. Thoughts on $APP ? It’s down 50% from ATH in just 2 weeks

I think the rebalancing is on the third Friday of the month, so the 21, not tomorrow

Based on absolutely nothing, I think $APP and $CVNA are getting added.

The inclusions are great. But man, no one's going to mention the removal of $INTC? It's warranted, but damn, Intel has been a pioneer for ages and part of the S&P500 for 53 years since it's IPO in 1971. It's actually a bit sad to see the company fall apart like it has. I'm a millennial and grew up in the 90s. Everything was powered Intel Pentium chips dominated and everything else was just competing for second it seemed. But we're watching a once dominant company fall apart right in front of us. Some companies actually still fare well after being dropped, but the current headwinds would suggest $INTCs struggles aren't over yet. It's easy to look back at history and see dominant companies that have failed and you can see why in hindsight. But we're literally witnessing, and have been for a couple years now. In 2021 they peaked at a market cap of $238B with revenue of $79B. Today, it has a market cap of of $89B with revenue of $53B. So why did their market cap fall 67% when revenue only fell 33%? Because their gross profit fell by 61%, margins fell from 25% to -35%, and EPS dropped from $4.86 to -$4.38 over the same time period. So for anyone who thinks the biggest companies now can't fall: Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Google; it can absolutely happen, and it can happen fast once things start going badly.
